Senior Kareef Khan is the guitarist and lead singer of Red Tape, an indie three-piece rock band.
“I think what really sparked it first was just an overnight obsession that for some reason, I wanted to learn to play instruments and write songs,” Khan said. “And the rest was just history.”
Khan realized early on that he didn’t want a future of fluorescent lighting and cubicle walls; music had always been a large part of his life, and soon he realized that it would become his purpose as well.
“If you end up in a place where you don’t want to be, and at one point we all get too old, and say, ‘Man, I wish I did that’, that’s probably the scariest thing a human [can] ever experience.” Khan said.
The three-piece band’s members have been one another’s greatest support.
“My friend Pasco, who’s been kind of my mentor, and taught me about guitar and songwriting,” Khan said. “my bandmates, my drummer, [Senior] Justin Cotter and my bass player, [Senior] Jacob Sloan, [have] been with me since the beginning.”
Red Tape has been playing and writing songs for over a year, and they believe they can finally start becoming big once they have gotten our name out.
“We recently just finished recording our EP, and then distribute it in the school, and we’re [hoping to] kind of take advantage of the pep rallies by treating them as like free concerts.” Khan said.
