Softball has been at the heart of Sanchez’s life for as long as she can remember. With boundless energy, deep love for the game, and unwavering commitment to the sport, she has been offered a full ride scholarship to Abilene Christian University.
“Through both high school and select team softball, I have learned to make the best of my opportunities and to stay true to myself, while doing the best that I can.” Sanchez said.
This mindset didn’t come from just anywhere; It has evolved from years of engaging with tougher competitions and setting higher standards for herself. .
“I grew up playing with older girls so I have always had more time to mature, and take my game to the next level,” Sanchez said.
Those early challenges became stepping stones, bringing Sanchez closer to her childhood dream.
“I felt almost relieved because I have worked so hard for this moment, so to get the opportunity to play at an elite level means a lot to me, and it all feels so surreal,” Sanchez said. “I am so blessed to have that full ride to ACU.”
Sanchez has picked up tips and tricks to maintain a good head space both before and during matches.
“My parents have always taught me to reset and have the mind of a goldfish,” Sanchez said. “So, if something goes wrong, then just don’t think about it and start thinking about the next play, because it’s now in the past. I also watch Barry Bonds motivational videos to learn how to let things go.”
Her ability to stay grounded traces back to the woman who taught her what strength really means.
“My biggest inspiration has always been my mom,” Sanchez said. “She wanted to do college softball but then she had me, so being able to have that connection with her is very important to me. he is my biggest cheerleader and she is a role model to me.
When Sanchez is prepping for games, she has many pre-game rituals and superstitions to help her get her confidence.
“For my pre-game rituals, I always need to listen to music because it is my happy place and helps me calm,” Sanchez said. “When I go up to bat I always put my left elbow guard on, right glove, left glove, and then my helmet; that’s one of my superstitions.”
As a part of the school’s broadcast program, Sanchez plans to join the ACU media program as well.
“[ACU has] a really good media program and I have some friends in that media program,” Sanchez said. “They have a bunch of opportunities to film ESPN games and college games, so I am super excited for their media program.”
