This is Jacob’s third year on staff and he is a senior at Rock Hill. He is a part of Rock Hill Media and as well in the Rock Hill Band. He plays both the Bass Clarinet and Clarinet for the band and is an Region and Area Member for TMEA.

He likes to hang with friends and family outside of school and loves to talk about food reviews.

Senior Semi Akindebe performs a solo with the Rock Hill Percussion ensemble accompanying him in the piece, Bossa Nova Baby created by Liber-Stoller-Presley. “Bossa Nova baby is such a fun piece to perform," Senior Semi Akindebe said, “it was so lively and made me want to move!” Akindebe also sang in another performance with the Rock Hill Wind Symphony Percussion Ensemble.

Sophomore Justin Cotter performs his marimba solo ‘Libertango’ after being announced as an outstanding soloist during the Rock Hill Band Cluster Solo and Ensemble back in Feburary. “While I was performing my solo I tried to focus all of the pressure and anxiety into my performance to make it as best as possible,” Sophomore Justin Cotter said. After the percussion concert, Cotter advanced to the concerto semi-finals round.

Freshman Evelyn Chatham performs on the ‘name of percussion instrument’ as a member of the Rock Hill Symphonic Band Percussion ensemble. The RHHS Symphonic Band Percussion ensemble performed ‘Little Miss Ugly Face,’ created by Ravel.

Senior Luca Colaruotolo is a featured Marimba soloist in ‘White Knuckle Stroll,’ created by Casey Cangelosi. Colaruotolo was named an outstanding soloist during the RHHS Band Cluster Solo and Ensemble contest.

Freshman Ajay Abraham performs his solo, ‘Prelude No. 2,’ by Ney Rosauro as a featured soloist in the program. “When performing my solo at the concert I felt focused, [I] wasn't really thinking about the audience, but instead was thinking about how good I could make that run of my solo,” Freshman Ajay Abraham said. After performing at the percussion concert, Abraham advanced to the Concerto Semi-Finals round.

Freshman Elisha Chiu performs as the synthezier player for three percussion ensembles, including Bossa Nova Baby in which was remixed by Mr. Chris Retschulte. “This piece was not only entertaining but also set the tone for the entire concert when we performed it first,” Chiu said, “the energy it radiated was infectious, compelling everyone in the audience to either move to the rhythm or sing along."

World Reowned Percussionist Paul Wertico performs with the Rock Hill Wind Symphony Percussion Ensemble as a guest soloist on the drumset. Wertico was a guest invited artist to perform with the Percussion Ensembles from both Hays Middle School and RHHS with a solo performance on drumset.

Sponsor Frederick Nickens asks the Robinson’s a question regarding mental health in African-American couples during the BSU and PSI Alpha mental health panel. "We can always learn from each other to become better human being," BSU and Psi Alpha Sponsor Frederick Nickens said.

Seniors Rayna Martin and Jaya Ande are preparing two certificates for the Robinsons’ after giving a mental health panel. The panel was a joint mental health in a African-American couple by BSU and Psi Alpha.

Panel Members Mr. Derrick Robinson and Mrs. Ceretha Robinson spoke about their experience as being an African-American couple during the BSU and Psi Alpha mental health panel.

BSU President Senior Rayna Martin discusses the questions given to the Robison's who were the panel members for a joint mental health panel by BSU and Psi Alpha. ““It was nice to see and hear the advice from what the Robinsons have gone through related to the questions, and how they would advise young students of how they can approach that same situation in the near future,” Martin said.
