Rock Hill High to host district’s college night on Monday

Having an opportunity to look into potential future colleges and careers can be inspirational. Rock Hill High School will be hosting the district’s college night this evening from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., where Prosper ISD students and parents can meet with representatives from over 100 colleges, trade schools and military schools across the USA, who will be answering onsite questions and giving advice to students.

Whether considering a traditional bachelor’s degree or preparing for a career right out of school, the district hopes the College Fair, which is hosted annually, will make the process accessible and less daunting to students.

“We just want to give all of our students an opportunity to plan for the future,” RHHS administrative assistant Kathy Harris said. Harris is organizing the fair this year. “[Since] we also have trade and military schools being represented, it is also a career fair, where students can think about what they’re going to do when they leave here. They weigh their options and see what’s out there.”

This is the first year that Rock Hill will host the College Fair, which has traditionally been held in Prosper High School. Information about the College Night was also included in the newsletter Rock Hill Review, where principal Dustin Toth said that “this is a great opportunity for all our students and parents to start connecting with colleges.”

Students and parents can register for the College Fair so that colleges can contact them with information from each college. Students would receive a barcode that college representatives can scan to quickly sign them up for updates, though registering isn’t necessary to attend the event.

“Anyone that goes to the high school is welcome,” Harris said. “You don’t have to be a senior. It can help to plan ahead sometimes.”
