Approaching a season of joy and magic, Rock Hill hosted a Fine Arts Winter Showcase for the Hays Middle School eighth graders on Friday, Dec. 8. At 10:00 a.m. Students from both schools made their way to the auditorium to wait for the performance to start.
All three high schools in Prosper ISD hosted their own showcase on the same day, but to their neighboring middle schools. This tradition started in 2021 after the COVID-19 outbreak to bridge the gap between high school and middle school fine arts organizations.
“The Fine Arts Winter Showcase is an opportunity for us to show all of the different fine arts classes that are offered here at the high school,” Assistant Choral Director Heather Sharp said. “All of the eighth graders that are already in these organizations or they’re just curious about them, get to see what it’s all about.”
Many organizations were presented at this showcase to represent the fine arts program that they are a part of. Each group had their own performance that really brightened up the holiday spirit.
“We have the band and within the band we will have a woodwind quintet playing a mallet ensemble. We have our orchestra, chamber choir (Blue Note), the Rockettes, color guard, the JV Dazzlers, and we have students who are serving as MC’s for the event. They will be welcoming everyone and introducing all the acts, and keeping all the energy up for the show,” Sharp said. “Our art department is decorating the lobby, and they will be providing contact information like on handouts. Musical theater is performing as well.”
After the curtains closed and farewells were expressed from the stage, the audience clapped and cheered.
“I would just like to say that I am so appreciative of all of our fine arts departments. The support of our administration on the Rock Hill campus and at the Hays campus has been outstanding, and they have done a lot to support financially,” Sharp said. “There’s so much talent in this department that it really is just a joy to put it together and to see it come together.”
