Homecoming preparations:

In order to be prepared for this exciting week, the student council, Stuco, will be holding several functions throughout the next couple of weeks.

After discussion among the executive student council, several preparation events have been planned. In the near future, Stuco will host a ‘Mums with Friends’ event in the cafeteria on Wednesday, Aug. 30th at 4:10 p.m. A work day will be held Sept. 3 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. at the school. This will include sign painting, and overall hoco decorating. This thrilling event encourages families and students to come and paint posters to display as signs. These signs will later be hung up in the hallways to help decorate for homecoming week.

Mums:

As a long standing Texan tradition, young women can be seen wearing a mum on the day of the homecoming game. A mum is a pretty arrangement of bells, ribbons, and charms that are either hung around the neck or pinned onto their clothing. Mums are made from artificial chrysanthemums that are overly decorated in school colors. Senior mums are typically much larger and white.

Young women will usually receive a mum from their date; who she in return will make a garter for. Garters are miniature versions of mums that young men usually wear. They are typically school colors with creative charms around them, and worn around the arm. 

Mums can be purchased at themumshop.com until Sept. 1. The base cost for mums is between $38 to $53, but will be more with each add-on. All proceeds will go to the school’s tennis team. After purchasing, mums will be available for pick up at Rock Hill in the  same week.. 

Aside from buying mums, they can be made here at school. Rock Hill’s Stuco is holding a ‘Mums With Friends’ event on Wednesday, Aug. 30. This will take place after school from 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. 

Homecoming dress up days:

In order to add to the excitement leading up to homecoming, Rock Hill does all sorts of dress up days the week prior. This fun filled week consists of several dress up days found below.

Monday, Sept. 4: “I was Enchanted to Meet You!” –Post on social media by tagging “RHHS” and “BlueHawkStuco” in a photo featuring other Blue Hawks that you know. There will be no school this day. 

Tuesday, Sept. 5: Aging curse 

Upperclassmen (Jr, Sr): Dress up as senior citizens

Lowerclassmen (Fr., So.): Dress up as babies/toddlers

Staff: Dress up as your High School Self)

Wednesday, Sept. 6: Cast a spell on Plano (dress up as a villain)

Thursday, Sept. 7: The Enchanted Switch (dress up as a friend and have them dress as you)

Friday, Sept. 8th: Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust (Glitter and Sparkles)

Homecoming court:

Homecoming court is a fun competition the school holds each year. Each grade can run for their respective positions. Nominations will begin on Aug. 20th and end on Aug. 24th. 

The winners from grades 9-11 will be announced over the intercom on Thursday, Aug. 31st. There will only be one voting opportunity for underclassmen. 

The most favored male and female nominees in each grade will become a part of this year’s homecoming court. Students may only vote for their grade until the week of, then voting for the king and queen (the seniors) opens to everyone.

Nominations for the King and Queen title will take place Aug. 20th-24th for seniors, but on Sept. 6th the other grades will be able to vote as well. The top five nominees will be announced on Aug. 25th. The senior winners will be announced before the homecoming game against Plano East on Friday, Sept. 8th. 

 Homecoming pep rally/parade:

The annual homecoming parade and community pep rally will be held at the school on Wednesday, Sept. 6th.This event includes both elementary and middle schools.

The parade consists of multiple different sports teams/organizations that go around with floats. As they walk by with their decorated floats, many will throw candy for the children and families. 

The floats are a way to show off the pride of the teams and organizations, and the candy is a way to give back to the community. We encourage families to come watch as it is an excellent way to celebrate.

Following the parade, a community pep rally will be held on the field. Several of Rock Hill’s amazing talents will be showcased, including the cheer team, drumline, and the colorguard.

Due to the pep rally being held for the public on Wednesday there will not be a pep rally on Friday, Sept. 8th during school.

Homecoming game:

The varsity football game starts at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 8th. The game will be against Plano East at Children’s Health Stadium. Tickets will be sold online through Ticket Spicket or at the gate with cash or card until sold out.

Homecoming dance:

The dance will take place in the Rock Hill cafeteria on Saturday, Sept. 9th from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The theme of this year’s dance is “Enchanted.”

All grades will be eligible to buy a ticket and attend. Tickets are currently $20 and sold online only at RHT Ticket Spicket. At this time, none will be sold at the door on the day of the event.
