Reporters Dana Garcia and Ananya Nandyala traveled to the University of Texas at Dallas to interview students and share their opinion on the recent TikTok ban their campus enforced.

The popular social media platform TikTok has become a habitual activity within our day-to-day life. However,  Gov. Abbott’s recent TikTok ban on government issued devices pushed universities across Texas to block access to the app under the campuses’ WiFi network. The ban is supposed to prevent the growing threats presented by the app.

Abbott originally issued a letter regarding the ban on on Dec. 7, 2022, but certain Texas colleges enacted and followed through with the policy as early as Jan. 16, 2023. As of now, the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M, University of Houston, Texas Tech, University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at San Antonio, University of North Texas and Texas State University are a few of the many colleges to enforce the ban.

In addition, Abbott gave Texas state agencies until Feb. 15, 2023 to ban TikTok.
