Top 10 movies of 2022

2022 was a year with many movies released in theaters. It consisted of many heart-warming, thrilling, horror, and distressing films. This is a list of the most memorable movies that were released, and of course, spoiler free.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once”

This adventure sci-fi movie is directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The film won many awards, one being best picture by Critic Choice Awards. It’s a show stopping film with amazing camera work. It follows a Chinese immigrant woman, Evelyn Wang, as she is swept up in a thrilling adventure and becomes an unlikely hero. This movie made me laugh, cry, and everything in between! It was refreshing to watch a film that tackles generational trauma with sci-fi and representation.

“Avatar: The Way of The Water”

The Sequel of 2009 “Avatar,” directed by James Cameron, alludes to America’s ugly past of the colonization of natives This film asks us to connect with one another and to the Earth. With its release  13 years after the announcement of the Avatar sequel in 2010, it was well worth the wait. The cinematography was out of this world– literally!

“Smile”

A film not for the faint heart, directed by Parker Finn, it was an amazing physiological horror with many twists and turns. The film was an amazing horror that dealt games to the mind. It made me feel uneasy at times with some of the scenes and the disturbing smiles. Before watching, know that some scenes deal with trauma and death.

“Nope”

This sci-fi film directed by Jordan Peele is unique, strange and horrifying. I found the sibling dynamic between Emerald and OJ to be charming and their journey had a nice recovery. The storyline was ridiculous to me at first, having a UFO and all, but the way they executed it with the acting and directing, it truly pulled through!

“Dr. Strange: The Multiverse of Maddens”

With the fourth phase of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) Dr. Strange’s Multiverse of Maddens, directed by Sam Raimi, was thrilling! The way the film was able to capture the mind bending reality of the multiverses made you sit on the edge of your seat, wanting more and more. The film was unique and pleasing to the eye with the cinematography!

“Top Gun: Maverick”

The sequel to the 1986 “Top Gun,” “Top Gun: Maverick” was directed by Joseph Kosinski. This film had action packed cinematography and amazing storylines for companionship and loyalty. The chills I got when seeing the Top Gun graduates trained with Maverick and the breathtaking views were unbelievable. The film was very entertaining and a great watch of 2022.

“Wakanda Forever”

This sequel to Black Panther was directed by Ryan Coogler, this was a nice refresher and heart warming story. The main cast fight to protect the nation of Wakanda from the incoming forces after the death of King T’challa. The storyline was strong and a pleasing transition from the last movies. The bonds and growth between the characters kept me wanting for more of the interactions.

“Turning Red”

The film takes on the blossoming of developing your own self. The Disney movie takes on the struggles of regulating emotions and pressure of reaching cultural expectations while also wanting to grow as a peppy teen. The film had amazing representation and made me tear up in some of the scenes. It was a beautiful movie of regrowth and acceptance. Definitely my top 3 movies Disney produced.

“Don’t Worry Darling”

The film is set in the 1950s and follows a couple living in a community of Victory residents and directed by Olivia Wilde. The directing was genius; I felt so immersed in the film while watching. It is a physiological thriller, the production and cinematography was beautiful to the eye. Although the storyline wasn’t at all the strongest, the film was gorgeous.

“Minions the Rise of Gru”

The latest movie to the Minion franchise was directed by Kyle Balda and is a comedic animation. The film was hilarious to say the least. I loved the story of Gru getting to learn from his idol, because, as the saying goes, “the student becomes the master.” It was one of my favoriteMinions movies produced so far. The adventures the minions and Gru experienced throughout the movie was candy to the eye.
