Elyssia is a member of the girls’ varsity basketball team. Her positivity and willingness to help others make her an excellent pick for Hawks out of class. Elyssia always has a smile on her face, keeps everyone around her smiling, and has an overall outgoing personality. Here, she tells us how she accomplishes her sport.
Hill Top Times: The girls’ varsity basketball team has a 14-13 overall win and is 4th in the district of Prosper ISD. How do you feel about being top 5 in the district?
Elyssia Brooks: I mean, it feels pretty great. We work hard every day. You feel me?
HTT: What made you decide to play basketball, and how long have you been playing?
EB: You know, it was kind of like I saw the ball when I was little, picked it up, and shot it. So that’s how it started.
HTT: What motivates you to play your best every game?
EB: My teammates, my coaches, my dad.
HTT: What is your favorite part of basketball?
EB: Definitely the team bonding and the dynamic we built.
HTT: Many athletes have specific things that they do before every game. Do you have any pregame rituals?
EB: Listen to music, hype up my teammates.
HTT: What type of attitude do you feel you add to the team?
EB: I’m like the hype man, the one that brings the team together.
HTT: And finally, what advice would you give to others trying to succeed in sports or any other extracurricular activities?
EB: I mean, just work hard every day and stay motivated.
